• Special session 1
Organizer: Ngo Minh Chu, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan
Title: Advanced Ceamics: Processing, Properties, Reliability, Simulation and Applications

Short Biography of Organizer
Dr. Ngo Minh Chu received his Ph.D. from Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan, in 2022. He joined AIST, Japan, in April 2022 as a postdoctoral researcher under a NEDO project focused on evaluation methods for next-generation ceramics used in high-power electronic devices and electric vehicles. Since April 2025, he has been a Researcher at AIST Chubu Center. His research interests include advanced ceramics, reliability evaluation, microstructural characterization, and materials design. Dr. Ngo has authored and co-authored 25 peer-reviewed publications and has received several awards, including the Best Paper Award from the Journal of the American Ceramic Society, the IEEE EPS Young Researcher Award (ICEP 2023), and the Engineering Ceramics Young Researcher Presentation Award (ICC'11). He currently serves as an International Committee Member of the American Ceramic Society and is a member of The Ceramic Society of Japan, and the Board of Directors of the Vietnamese Academic Network in Japan (VANJ).

Short description of the proposed topic:
Advanced ceramics play a critical role in modern technologies owing to their outstanding mechanical, thermal, chemical, electrical, and functional properties. Recent advances in processing technologies, microstructural engineering, characterization methods, computational modeling, and data-driven materials design have significantly expanded the performance and application range of ceramic materials.
This symposium provides a forum for researchers, engineers, and industry practitioners to discuss the latest developments in advanced ceramics, from fundamental materials science to practical applications. Contributions are invited on innovative processing routes, microstructure-property relationships, reliability and lifetime assessment, multiscale modeling and simulation, artificial intelligence and digital approaches for materials design, and emerging applications across various engineering sectors.

Proposed topics:
●Innovative Processing Routes and Synthesis Methods
●Novel Sintering Technologies
●Microstructure Control
●Mechanical Properties
●Thermal Properties
●Corrosion and Oxidation Behavior
●Reliability and lifetime prediction and modelling
●Computational Modelling, Simulation and Design
●Testing and Evaluation
●Oxides and Non-oxides (Nitrides, Carbides and others)
●Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC)
●Coatings
●Applications

Novelty and motivation:
Recently, rapid advances in science and technology have created increasing demands for ceramic materials with enhanced properties and reliability. To address these challenges, this symposium will bring together experts from around the world to present and discuss the latest progress in advanced ceramics, including processing, properties, reliability, simulation, and applications. The symposium will feature invited speakers from countries with leading ceramic technologies, providing a unique platform for international exchange and collaboration.
